Tantrik Magic Rules

The rules of tantra are what guarantee success in tantric magic; without them, any experiment will be in vain, no matter how much effort and dedication has been invested. This is why only a few people achieve success in tantric practices. The main reason is that the rules of tantra are not written in any book, but are only transmitted from guru to disciple, and few practitioners are fortunate enough to encounter a genuine guru.

These rules are extensive and can be grouped according to context. For example, there are rules strictly for the rosary and how it should be used, rules for how to treat the seat used for practice, rules for eating during days of sadhana or spiritual practice, etc.

And the truth is that no one can fully follow all of these rules; in fact, it’s not even possible to know for certain the exact number of tantric rules that exist. That’s why the general rules are the best known and the ones most often followed during practice. These rules are as follows:

1) Maintain celibacy.

Celibacy, or Brahmacharya, is one of the fundamental pillars of all spiritual practice and must be maintained at all costs, both mentally (avoiding erotic or lustful thoughts), verbally (avoiding conversations about women or sexual acts), visually (avoiding viewing any erotic content), and physically (avoiding any type of sexual activity, including masturbation). Celibacy is essential to increase tapoval (spiritual energy), which is an important requirement for success in any type of magical practice.

2) Adopting a sattvic diet.

During the days of spiritual practice, it is imperative to maintain physical purity, and this is achieved by maintaining a sattvic diet. You are what you eat, so by consuming purely vegetarian foods, your body gradually purifies itself and begins to vibrate at higher frequencies, which is necessary to tune into the spiritual world.

Not only should you avoid eating meat, fish, and eggs, but you should also avoid garlic and onions because they are considered tamasic and rajasic foods that disturb the mind, body, and spirit. It is also important that the food consumed during the ritual be personally prepared by the practitioner. Food prepared by others should be completely avoided.

3) Eat only once.

During the days of the ritual, the practitioner should eat only once a day. For the rest of the day, only water may be drunk. It is recommended that meals be eaten at the same time every day. First, one should pray at least eleven mantras of the deity being worshipped and ask that they accept the food and bless it.

Only then may one begin eating. If the practitioner is performing the ritual at home, then it is recommended to consume the food in the same room where the ritual is taking place. One should always eat prepared food the same day, the meal made the day before should be avoided.

4) Avoid toxic substances.

Alcohol, tobacco, and other toxic substances are tamasic elements that should be avoided during spiritual practice, as they hinder connection with the subtle world and contaminate the physical body. Practitioners should maintain purity as much as possible to increase their chances of success.

5) Maintain physical hygiene.

Physical hygiene is also one of the most important aspects to consider during spiritual practice, especially if the practitioner is performing a ritual involving a sattvic entity. The rules recommend that the practitioner wash theirselves at least twice a day and always take a full bath before beginning the practice.

Furthermore, the clothing worn during the ritual must be washed every day, and the same clothing should never be worn from the day before without first washing it. During the ritual, the practitioner should aslo avoid cutting their hair or nails, as well as shaving their beard.

6) Maintain mental purity.

Not only physical purity must be observed, but also mental and verbal purity. During the days of spiritual practice, the practitioner should avoid speaking ill of others, criticizing them, or insulting them. Emotions such as anger must be controlled at all times, and no arguments or disputes should be held, nor should any violence be used against any living being.

7) Avoid distractions.

During spiritual practice, the mind should be clear and focused. The practitioner should focus solely on the practice at hand and avoid worldly distractions such as watching television, listening to music, dancing or singing, exercising, going out or chatting with friends, or unnecessarily touching their cell phone. The practitioner should remain in a meditative state at all times, and their thoughts should always be focused on the practice.

8) Sleep on the floor.

The practitioner should spread a mat on the floor in the same room where the ritual is being performed and sleep on it every night after completing the mantra chanting. A sheet may be used to cover and protect themselves from the cold. No one else should enter that room under any circumstances during the days of the spiritual work; otherwise, the ritual would be considered interrupted and would have to be restarted from the beginning.

9) Remain silent.

It is important to remain silent as much as possible during the ritual, speaking only when absolutely necessary. Practitioners should avoid useless and insubstantial chatter, because talking wastes the spiritual energy accumulated over time. This could delay the results or compromise the success of the spiritual practice being performed.

10) Avoid physical contact.

Physical contact with other people is another very important rule to respect during the ritual. Since touching other people causes the loss of accumulated energy and also carries the risk of receiving negative energy from others (known as energy contamination), the practitioner should be careful with physical contact, especially avoiding shaking hands.

11) Maintain secrecy.

In tantric magic, and in any other system of magic in general, secrecy is one of the most important rules. The practitioner must maintain secrecy at all times about the practice they are performing and not discuss it with anyone except their guru. Any paranormal experiences that arise during the practice should not be shared with anyone except the guru.

12) Avoid leather objects.

Leather objects, such as shoes, belts, etc., should be avoided during the ritual, as should clothing made of skin or other animal parts. The practitioner should also avoid wearing any type of jewelry or other body adornments. The use of makeup, perfumes, and scented soaps should also be completely avoided.

In conclusion, this is not a complete list of rules for tantric magic, as the full list is much longer. In subsequent posts, we will publish more rules, grouping them by context. However, the rules detailed in this section are some of the most important and must be followed during all tantric practices.
